Driving to Downtown Chicago
The following directions will help you find your way downtown from any part of Chicago. All directions below are designed to get you to the intersection of Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River, which is just north of Wacker Drive.
From the Northwest/O'Hare Airport:
Get onto I-90 East, the Kennedy Expressway, and take this all the way downtown to the Ohio Street exit. Continue on Ohio until reaching Michigan Avenue. Make a right on Michigan, and the Chicago River is just a few blocks away.
From the West/Midway Airport:
Exit the airport and turn left, or north, on Cicero Avenue to I-55 north (the Stevenson Expressway). Take I-55 to Lake Shore Drive north. From Lake Shore Drive, exit at Wacker Drive. Stay to your right, proceed up the ramp and continue a few blocks until you reach Michigan Avenue.
From the West:
Go east on I-290 (the Eisenhower Expressway) to downtown until it turns into Congress Parkway. From Congress, turn north (left) on Columbus Avenue, and then left again on Randolph Street. Turn right on Michigan Avenue and continue about 3 blocks to Wacker Drive.
From the South:
From Indiana via the Skyway, take the Indiana Tollway (I-90) to the Chicago Skyway I-94 north (the Dan Ryan); on I-94, stay in the local traffic lanes. Exit to I-55 (the Stevenson Expressway) and proceed to Lake Shore Drive north. From Lake Shore Drive, exit at Wacker Drive. Stay to your right, proceed up the ramp and continue a few blocks until you reach Michigan Avenue.
From Indiana via I-80/94:
Take I-80/94 to the Calumet Expressway to I-94 north (the Dan Ryan). Exit at I-55 north (the Stevenson Expressway) and proceed to Lake Shore Drive north. From Lake Shore Drive, exit at Wacker Drive. Stay to your right, proceed up the ramp and continue a few blocks until you reach Michigan Avenue.
